Great posting – just found it. Of course, nobody without a pretty healthy ego runs for president, and I think that you could make the case that no person who was psychologically normal would even want the job. But it does seem that Obama is rather unusually well endowed on the self-esteem front. I guess we’ll see…

I tend to agree, but let's not put too menacing a gloss on it. Especially the bit about the Lincoln Bible is open to interpretation. Does Obama view himself as the New Lincoln (Lincoln Mark II! Hey, I made a funny!) or does he merely view his presidency as the final fulfillment of the post-racial society which Lincoln's revolution promised? I'd really like some journalist to ask Obama to explain that to us. I'm not holding my breath. That pathetic pack of lapdogs would never ask. The same alpha qualities that make for a strong charismatic leader lend themselves to a degree of narcissism. Without them I doubt one could put on the show required to wage a successful campaign. Hopefully in practice each president’s hubris is tempered by an intelligent cabinet of advisers.
