Costa Rica Has Destroyed My Laptop

Good news, Costa Rica is awesome. Jaco is a nice enough place but not really my cup of tea personally, but the rest of the country is sweet. Or maybe my expectations were just too high following last year’s vacation. I might dedicate a longer post to it at some point.

Bad news, the heat here overheated my laptop. As in, it was so hot that even with the computer off and screen closed, the laptop totally overheated and shut down. I’ve never seen anything like it. Motherboard is fried. Utterly shot.

Since blogging at work is a no-no, I’m going to be down until I get a new laptop in a few weeks. I have to use a friend’s computer just to make this post.

Since my computer access is going to be extremely limited, I propose this: A while back, I asked you guys to give me ideas on what type of book I should write. The most popular suggestion was a collection of essays, so that is what I am going with. My next question is, what subject matters would you suggest I write about? Which topics do you like to read from me the most? It will help me get an idea of what the range of topics should be. I am currently at the stage of outlining it and the subject matter needs a little more focusing.

Also, tell me what you would least like to see. For example many of you say the political stuff is too divisive, so I’m going light on that. One essay at most.

Thanks.

UPDATE: Doesn’t have to be a topic or even subject area I’ve already covered. It could be something I’ve never discussed in the past ever but you still want to hear my take on.

Found your website a few weeks ago (maybe through a comment at AoSHQ — can’t remember) and I’ve read through quite a bit of your archive. I’ve been most interested in the posts where you discuss differences between male and female psychology, but the other content is similarly thoughtful and well worth reading. Good luck with the book.

Covering the Rearden as well as the Madonna/Whore Complex has been great work. Haven’t found anything else like it anywhere

‘Emminent Bloggers’. Profiles of roissy, roosh, vk etc – with the style of strachey. Theses guys certainly represent some aspect of the zeitgeist.

Appreciate the suggestion, but I don’t think that would work in a book form. Critiquing other bloggers is too narrow a topic, especially in written text form where the person reading can’t easily just click over to the person’s blog and read it for themselves to see what I’m talking about. Not just that, I think critiquing another blogger I respect can inadvertently lead to bad form if not done right. Rather not even tread there to begin with.

Guy T – Yeah, male vs. female psychology topics will be a must.

Racial differences in dating and marriage. Do black women (and men) expect the same attitudes and behaviors from their partners and spouses whites, Asians, Latinos? Advice for white and Asian dudes wanting to attract black and Hispanic women. My friend knows a Chinese guy who grew up in a heavily black area of Brooklyn, and he has an almost exclusive preference for black women but gets nowhere with them. I realize this might be considered political but as it avoids personalities, partisanship and policy you could probably get away with it. I liked your travel series, so some general pieces on New York would be interesting.

Raw Truths. 48 laws of power type stuff, but not how Obama uses them, more like how they operate in real life in every day situations.

PS: Check out the work of Keith Gladstone – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Johnstone – it’s all about the role of social status in comedy, and the signs of social status. Haven’t finished reading the book yet, though.

The stuff you wrote about identity was great. Also you could break down how the societal roles that men placed on themselves have changed and the repercussions of that. Also go into more theories like game theory or OODA Loop theory

oh yeah the renaissance man post you did was classic expand on that as well

More Renaissance Man recommendations, both theoretical and practical. Especially stuff like Post 2, where you tie together theory (grasp any opportunity to make decisions) and practice (become an expert on your city) — I’ve gotten good results with that particular piece of advice.
