Bangs and Bun - that's the spirit!

Smash - I've been trying to rein in the sarcasm, especially with strangers. Risk of misinterpretation is too high, the rewards are too low. Plus, from seeing it in other people, I've grown to realize how ugly it actualy is.

ha! i'll take it as such. and you're right. This city breeds passive aggressiveness. Ever try to see if you can go a whole day without the use of sarcasm? it's damn near impossible. it's as much a part of our makeup as urbanites as...i dunno...something that's really a part of our makeup as urbanites.

<em>Smash's last blog post..<a href='http://dartmouthdropout.blogspot.com/2008/02/honesty-happiness.html' rel="nofollow">The Soulless</a></em>

Referring to fucking as a 'call to arms' kind of just made my day. I'm using that on my man later.

Smash - That comment totally made me feel high as hell...and I mean that in the best possible sense. Good stuff.

Desiree - That's especially true in a place like NY, where I swear passive aggression is accepted, no encourage, on unheard of levels.

Let me agree w/ both you and Ruff. I used to dance around things, but lately I realized there is absolutely nothing better than being 100% honest about what you want or what you mean. It works absolute wonders and gains you infinite respect. Smash is right, it's absolute gangsta.

<em>Desiree's last blog post..<a href='http://boyscarspatron.blogspot.com/2008/01/wow.html' rel="nofollow">Wow.</a></em>

word. i would go so far as to define "gangsta" as the extent to which one genuinely and naturally exercises what lies within oneself in the external world.

i think about this stuff alot which is why i love your blog.
Honesty is very gangsta. and i think this is so because it is the full participation of who you were created to be. that's why it feels good and why it seems so refreshing. if you can think about how tragic it is to realize how little of our lives we spend doing or saying what we truly want or feel.
I would define happiness as the extent to which one experiences their true self on a moment to moment basis. but how many of us are doing that? and for what? so that guy X doesn't think we're a prick?
for the hope of positive opinion from girl y or boss Z?
it's exhausting. none of these people mean anything to us. why should they?

i used to have a theory...not every body that walked the earth carried within it a soul. I defined soul at the time as a "genuine spirit" that could be connected with or to. I could sit in a starbucks amongst 20 people but only feel the presence of a handful of other spirits. The proof of a life beyond simple motion.

You ever talk to someone and get the feeling that there is no depth. At the risk of sounding "too cool for the room" how can some people not be into music? or into sports? how can some people not genuinely feel for the plight of the american indian? now none of these is in itself a proof of life. everyone is different. the point is that i didn't believe a person had a soul until i had proof of it.
and to tie this back into the discussion i don't think we should care about what another thinks unless they've given us proof of life.

why should i care if a dog likes what i'm wearing. why should i care is a tollbooth finds me funny?
I value my brother's opinions of me because i value his opinions period. and not because i agree with him, but because i know he has a soul. i know there is a genuine individual in him. I know he's one of "god's creations."

I feel like this is what honesty and "honest moments" are about. that true connection of "god creations."

the truly interesting fact comes out of the idea that DIShonesty, though antithetical to true creation might serve a more powerful evolutionary or systemic purpose. Why else would we see so little of it in the world.

(and please forgive all the metaphysics. i'm writing my buddhism thesis having had 3 venti machiattos, 200mg of provigil and 100mg of adderal)

Carlos Santana said he understood everything he every needed to know about Rob Thomas when he found out he was married to a Latin woman. Hence, the memorable lyric, "I could change my life to better suit your mood."
